Schunk designs an intelligent tool holder

Tom Jacobs

Schunk showed off their new range of smart tool holders at the EMO trade fair held recently in Hanover.

The iTENDO has integrated vibration sensors so that the real time milling process can be measured and unexpected peeks or problems can immediately be detected. This can be applied to the production environment via wireless communications. In addition to the holder and the communications modules, the system introduced by Schunk also includes the software allowing visualisation and analysis of the measurements. The data is compatible with the OPC-UA standard. Machine integration makes it possible to set up an enclosed system so that the process can be kept under control.

Sirris pays a lot of attention to the integration and use of sensors for optimising processes.
