Learn what is being done in Europe

To achieve the EU’s goal of being climate neutral by 2050, wind energy technologies will need to unlock their full potential on low-cost, reliable clean energy generation. The next generation of wind farms will need to be supported by an even more innovative set of physical and digital tools, as well as operational controls, collectively known as wind farm control. Discover the objectives during an upcoming webinar!

Generally, ‘wind farm control’ refers to the coordination of different wind turbines in a wind farm, to improve the overall farm power production and to reduce structural loading among wind turbines. Much work still needs to be done in this area.

In this context the EU launched the Horizon Europe call "Integrated Wind Farm Control " (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-03-04), aiming to unlock the full potential of wind energy technologies for low-cost, reliable, and clean energy generation. In 2023 the EU granted four projects, ICONIC, SUDOCO, TWAIN and WILLOW, to achieve these innovations.

Sirris is actively involved as a project partner in WILLOW - “Wholistic and Integrated Digital Tools for Extended Lifetime and Profitability of Offshore Wind Farms” and we have already lifted a tip of the veil in our introductory article on the project. Now, an upcoming webinar will allow you to have an overview of all four projects and their goals. This 1.5 hour online session, organised by Cluster Energia, will take place on 10 September 2024.
