Arrowhead | Tools for Engineering of Digitalisation Solutions
The Arrowhead Tools project aimed for digitalization and automation solutions for the European industry, closing the gaps hindering the IT/OT integration by introducing new technologies in an open-source platform for design and run-time engineering of IoT and System of Systems.
Context
The implementation and operations of IoT platforms remain a challenging task. The Arrowhead Tools project aimed for facilitating digitalisation and automation solutions for the European industry. For this, the project provided engineering processes, integration platform, tools and tool chains for the cost-efficient development of digitalisation, connectivity and automation system solutions in various fields of application.
In this framework, the Belgian industrial partner 3E in collaboration with Sirris realised IoT and data analytics technologies for reducing engineering costs, focusing on two concrete uses cases:
- auto- and re-configuration of the SynaptiQ software service platform using Arrowhead Tools technology that allows to reduce the engineering effort related to connecting over 300 000 devices in the field,
- secure bi-directional communication for control purposes by integrating IoT technology onto local gateways.
In this context, Sirris’ main goals was acquiring new knowledge related to the realisation and application of advanced data-driven methodologies for identifying anomalous (hardware and software) configurations, generating corresponding alarms and providing appropriate recommendations for resolving the issue. The methodologies were validated within the use cases mentioned above.
Objective and results
The objective was to reduce the onboarding and configuration cost by 50% with the help of the tools and tool chains developed in Arrowhead Tools.
For this, Sirris and 3E developed an approach taking into account former plant configurations and alarm data of the operational system in order to develop a recommendation and standardization engine. With this, the conditional auto-deployer used by 3E’s OPS team reduced the number of support tickets with 50%.
