Wind turbine blade

Group coaching - New products from discarded wind turbine blades (full)

What about the future residual flow from offshore wind turbine blades? After a feasibility study and thorough consultation with various companies, Sirris is ready to take further steps towards concrete answers in a business-driven approach. You too can be part of the solution! We’re organising a coaching process with relevant players who will form a new value chain.

12,000 tonnes, or 12 million kilograms, which is the weight of composite waste from offshore wind turbine blades in our country in 2040. The turbine blades are made of glass fibre reinforced composites and represent 10-15 wt% of the entire wind turbine. Where there are different common end-of-life solutions for the other turbine components, there are few favourable commercial opportunities for the wind turbine blades. What are we going to do with this residual flow?

After a feasibility study with Agoria and Go4Circle and thorough consultation with various companies, Sirris is ready to take further steps towards concrete answers in a business-driven approach. Be part of the solution! We’re organising a coaching process with relevant players who will form a new value chain around commercial processing solutions for offshore wind turbine blades.

The objective of this group coaching is to use recyclate from wind turbine blades in three products.

Approach

A pragmatic, short, yet technically sound feasibility study into the use of recycling technologies with high TRLs. We strive for a ‘hands-on’ approach. A participating company provides a wind turbine blade in this project. Other companies will grind down the blade and then press it into new products at product constructors. This way, the entire value chain will be actively involved, with relevant and deployable technologies. Material requirements for the recyclate are defined. Opportunities / bottlenecks in processing to new products are identified.

Format: The four coaching sessions are spread over a period of four months (one session per month). In between sessions you can count on individual guidance from Sirris for your company. Feel free to bring an interested colleague!

The sessions are given in Dutch.

Target group

Enterprising, ambitious companies that want to be part of a new value chain and are active in composite production, glass fibre production, recycling, logistics or product design.

Practical

The data of the four sessions are :

  • March 4th, AM (online)
  • April 1st, AM
  • May 6th, AM
  •  June 24th, AM

We would like to organise physical meetings at the participating companies. Interested? Feel free to let us know if you are open to seeing us. Please note, the first meeting will be held online due to the current COVID-19 measures.

Important! This coaching programme is already full. Are you still interested in this approach or theme, for this or for other material flows? Then be sure to contact us! In this way, we can set up similar actions in the future that not only match your corporate vision, but already have the relevant ambitious companies around the table at the start of the process.
