New methodology for stronger cybersecurity in manufacturing industry
Want to increase your knowledge about cybersecurity in your manufacturing company and contribute to a more cyber-safe manufacturing industry? You can! Sirris has been appointed by the European Social Fund (ESF 566 – Courses for the future) to develop a high-quality cybersecurity training course directed specifically to the manufacturing industry and the professionals with day-to-day responsibility for the set-up and use of machines.
The approach that Sirris uses is not directly aimed at training the operators themselves, but instead we want first and foremost to provide the process engineers and maintenance technicians with the required knowledge to enable them in turn to train the operators. This can be done, for example, during daily meetings aimed at strengthening the operators’ cybersecurity knowledge.
Boards are key
We will achieve this knowledge improvement using a Kamishibai board system: this allows operators to gain practical knowledge of cybersecurity related to their daily activities. In addition, we will send audit cards so you can assess your own knowledge level.
To test the content and methodology of this training, Sirris will organize test sessions on 5, 12 and 19 October 2023 at our site in Zwijnaarde (Ghent). Each of the sessions will run from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and will be held in English.
Three test sessions
Overview of the programme content of the test sessions:
5 October:
- Introduction to the ESF cybersecurity training
- General cybersecurity awareness
- Remote access/support
12 October:
- How to manage PLCs [Programmable Logic Controllers] securely
- Buyer’s guide for shop floor assets
19 October:
- How to set up a secure architecture for PLCs and IoT devices
- Incident response: attack simulation and fire drill
The main goal of these test sessions is two-fold:
- To validate the relevance of the content,
- To validate the effectiveness of the training methodology.
The target group for these sessions includes process engineers, maintenance technicians, continuous improvement engineers and operational technology [OT] engineers.
