Masterclass

Thermoplastic composites | From recyclable to recycled

Join over 20 other companies for our shared learning event on thermoplastic composites in the circular economy. Explore the use of fibre-reinforced thermoplastic polymers in current circular applications. You are in for an inspirational day on the use of thermoplastic composites in a circular economy and you will learn how to navigate the challenges effectively.

Thermoplastics have been used in composite parts and structures since the late 1960s, but new materials and processes, and demand from the industry for faster-processing materials, are pushing thermoplastic composites to the forefront of the composites manufacturing world. Next to fast processability, thermoplastic composites offer other significant advantages, such as high impact resistance, lightweight properties and ease of assembly through welding.

In addition, thermoplastics fit well in the circular economy, because they can melt at elevated temperatures. This allows them to be reshaped into new designs and new products. While thermoplastics give opportunities for several ReX-strategies (refurbishing, remanufacturing, recycling ...), the market currently focuses on recycling as an important circular hurdle to overcome. And while the claim for recyclability is justified, only few examples show real-life applications of recycled composites.

Join us for an inspirational event where you will dive deep into the current possibilities for thermoplastic composites in the circular economy, learn how to make smart use of thermoplastic composites to maximise their advantages, in an economical way.

During this event, you will:

  • See technical potential: the technological potential of recycling thermoplastic composites will be described and shown through demonstrators and products.  We aim to showcase what technologically is possible and what the boundaries are.
  • Learn together: presentations by experienced thermoplastic composites users with different perspectives will foster interesting discussions and insights. There will be dedicated plenary time slots to share your personal experiences with other participants.

Don't miss the chance to be part of a seminar designed to catalyse thought, debate and partnership, setting the stage for the next wave of material innovation.
