The Importance of Standardisation for Manufacturing Connectivity

The production of smaller series and more complex products puts pressure on the productivity at manufacturing companies. By using digital technologies, connectivity can create value in your production. By standardising production connectivity, the effort involved can be significantly reduced. What standards are there to connect your production machines, extract data and launch smart applications? This webinar will give you an insight into the importance and possibilities of standardisation for your production floor and shares experience from various cases.

Various open standards such as OPC UA and MQTT are enablers to provide open end-to-end connectivity in the manufacturing industry. This webinar provides insight into the challenges, importance and opportunities of the different connectivity standards and shares experience from various cases. The concepts, building blocks and insights are more widely applicable to connect your production.

Programme

  • Introduction to Connected Manufacturing
  • Challenges and the importance of standardisation
  • Overview of communication standards for production connectivity (OPC UA, MQTT, ...)
  • Standard data models for production (Umati)
  • SmartFactory Demonstrator @Flanders Make
  • Experience with PackML standard from SmartFactory

Connected Manufacturing

The webinar is organised by Sirris and Flanders Make as part of the Connected Manufacturing COOCK project. (HBC.2020.2544). This project aims to make the technological possibilities of connecting machines and business applications tangible for companies and give them insight into how to use them to increase transparency and productivity.

Target group

This webinar is aimed at manufacturing companies (production management) on the one hand and technology providers (machine builders, integrators and developers of data applications) on the other.
