ASCO Industries is world leader in the design and manufacturing of high lift devices, complex mechanical assemblies and major functional components for the aerospace industry. To safeguard the competitive position in the high-lift devices for all major aircraft families (Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer), ASCO is continuously challenging its product design and manufacturing towards a lower cost and weight while maintaining or improving quality and performance.

Aerosint has developed a powder recoating system for additive manufacturing in powder bed technologies. This system can spread two or more powders in a single coating. The new technology allows for different approaches, such as multi-material printing, printing without a binding agent for indirect AM processes, and the option of zero-waste printing in the powder bed process (LBM, EBM, SLS, etc.), where the powder can also be used as support structure when manufacturing parts. The properties of the powder currently degrade during the process itself, decreasing the recyclability of the material. The use of a different powder to support the parts during the process will reduce the waste of quality base materials and therefore improve recyclability.

ALX Systems develops software for autonomous drones (UAVs) in the fields of defence, aviation and civil engineering. The drones are deployed to monitor risk zones or to verify infrastructure.

Infections and infectious diseases are a continuous threat to human health. According to the European Centre for Disease prevention and Control (ECDC), over 4 million people are estimated to acquire a HealthCare Associated Infection (HCAI). The number of deaths occurring as a direct consequence of these infections is estimated to be at least 37.000, and these infections are thought to contribute to an additional 110.000 deaths each year. At a workshop held on 20-21 March 2018 in Ljubljana, devoted to implications for cleaning procedures on the application of antimicrobial coatings in healthcare settings, Sirris presented how to measure the durability of AMCs for healthcare applications.

Growth in the microdomain is driven by IoT applications and other connected and smart products, as has been demonstrated by Micro-Lab products throughout 2018.

Vandewiele NV, a well-known weaving machine and textile system manufacturer, studied the options to implement laser curing to increase the quality of the machines and, at the same time, shorten the turnaround time.

Mariasteen is a manufacturing industry supplier. The West Flanders sheltered workshop has an experienced technical department. Like many other manufacturing companies, they often work on short-term jobs. This results in a higher variety of products, a decrease in repetitive work and an increase in complex work for employees.

JTEKT Torsen was able to make automotive differentials lighter. The products were optimised through better management of materials and their layout.

Polymar specialises in plastics but wanted to expand their range of products for equestrian sports with items made of multi-materials. They contacted Sirris with regard to material testing and advice.

Siemens PLM Software develops software for virtual testing and simulation of composite production processes. Siemens takes a leading position in the development of Digital Twin solutions for companies through the close integration of 3D computer-aided engineering (CAE) and tests. Accurate flow simulations can, for example, be carried out for composite production processes using Simcenter 3D (Siemens product life cycle management (PLM) Software). Sirris supported Siemens PLM Software (Leuven) when validating the results of this advanced simulation system.
