Free reference document on face masks to be downloaded

As face masks for daily use are an essential part of the exit strategy, there is an urgent need for an official Belgian reference document.

This project aims to clarify the multitude of - often faulty or incorrect - information with regard to the making and purchase of safe face masks. The Bureau for Standardisation (NBN), with extensive experience in the development and publication of normative documents, adopted the role of facilitator.

This project aims to clarify the multitude of - often faulty or incorrect - information with regard to the making and purchase of safe face masks. The Bureau for Standardisation (NBN), with extensive experience in the development and publication of normative documents, adopted the role of facilitator.

After a very intense collaboration with Centexbel, Creamoda, Febelsafe and also input from Sciensano and the FPS Economy, the technical document (NBN/DTD) can now be downloaded for free on the website of the Bureau for Standardisation.

This reference document contains information on:

  • How to make, test, pack and maintain safe face masks as a company
  • The quality requirements if you buy face masks for the public or the workplace
  • The guidelines citizens should follow if they want to make their own
